We have tested some datagrids for several javascript frameworks. Most of the candidates could bring up following features: Web Ressources for our Candidates: Unfortunatly thers no stable datagrid plugins for mootools 1.2 yet. Some mootools coders got already working samples including sorting and paging. If there is already a stable and usable datagrid im gonna update my post. Flexigrid (Jquery) - http://webplicity.net/flexigrid/ JqGrid 3.3 (Jquery) - http://www.trirand.com/blog/ ExtJs Grid (ExtJs) - http://extjs.com/deploy/dev/examples/grid/edit-grid.html Feature Overview:
Conclusions: ExtJs is a very professional framework, the ExtJs Grid is looking clean working stable and fast in various browsers. But due we not using ExtJs in general due its overloaded. If you thinking about using frameworks right now your should consider about using ExtJs. Flexigrid for Jquery is a very nice tool, its looking great and working fine, but is quite slow and sometimes a bit buggy. There is a Google Group for open discussion. But there is no documentation about the project. Jqgrid for Jquery is still lightweight compared to ExtJs is working fast and stable. The themes is not looking same professional same as Flexigrid but can be easily but can be adapted by modifying images and the themes css. Our personal favorite is Jqgrid, but theres a also general conclusion about the need of datagrids. Mostly the part of retrieving the data, sorting, paging, special calculations is done by the server side script which is beeing called everytime the user is clicking on something. Due heavy use of CSS overflow styles printing issues are getting quite nasty. So is there really a need of high sophisticated datagrids ? - You must decide that question yourself. back |
